The Clearing Folk School was started in 1935 by renown landscape architect Jens Jensen in 1935. According to its website, The Clearing Folk School “was built as a place where ordinary people could, as the name implies, ‘clear one’s mind’ by reconnecting with nature and with one another.'” The school has a robust program of winter day classes that include a discussion titled “The African American Experience in Film: Jim Crow to Civil Rights,” a wine tasting session that promises to introduce students to the kinds of wine that wine pros are drinking, learning how to weave waxed linen and pine needle baskets, and much more. You can view the winter class program on The Clearing Folk School’s website.
